Free Stuff Worth Claiming in October 2026

freebiesoctober-2026free-samplessaving-money

"Free" is doing a lot of work in most roundups. Some of these land on your doormat for nothing; some require you to pay full price and wait weeks to get it back; and a couple are free only if you cancel something before a date. All three are worth having — but they're not the same offer, and the difference is where people lose money.

So this month's list is sorted by what it actually costs you to get there.

Three different things all called "free" They post it You front $0 Give your address Wait 2–6 weeks It arrives. Actually free. Free after rebate You front the lot Pay full price Submit the receipt Money comes back Free trial You front shipping Pay the shipping Cancel in time Or it renews by itself Only the top row is free with no further action from you.

Free, and you front nothing

These are the ones to do first, because there's no downside and nothing to remember. Give an address, get a thing.

The pet tag is the standout — it's a genuinely useful object, properly engraved, and it doesn't ask for a card. The calendar is worth grabbing now rather than in December, when the free ones are long gone.

Photo prints, which are free more often than people realise

Drugstore photo departments run essentially permanent free-print promotions to get you in the door, and they rotate codes constantly.

Two notes. These are in-store pickup offers — choose shipping and you'll pay more in postage than the prints are worth. And if you're a Walmart+ member, the 25 free prints a month are recurring, which over a year is a real line item most members never use.

One dated event worth putting in the calendar

Free LEGO Halloween Mini Build Event at Select Barnes & Noble – Oct 9–11Free LEGO Halloween Mini Build Event at Select Barnes & Noble – Oct 9–11100% FreeBarnes & NobleView deal

These run while supplies last and the good stores empty out early on day one. If you have kids and a participating store nearby, go on the Friday.

And in the drinks aisle:

Free, but you pay first and wait

Everything below genuinely ends at zero — after you've paid full price and submitted something. That's a real trade: you're lending the money and taking on the risk of forgetting. Industry breakage rates on rebates run 40–60%, which is to say the offer is priced on the assumption that a lot of people won't follow through.

The Aisle ones are the least painful of the group: you text a photo of the receipt and the money lands in Venmo or PayPal within a day or two, with no app to install and no minimum to cash out — but the receipt has to go in within 72 hours. The Electrolit one is a traditional mail-in, which means a postmark deadline and the original barcode.

Submit the same day you buy. This isn't a throwaway tip: research on rebate redemption found people were more likely to claim when the deadline was a single day than when they had three weeks. A long window feels generous and is actually the thing that kills the claim. We've written the mechanics up properly in the free-after-rebate guide.

Free only if you cancel

Both are worth taking, and both convert to a paid subscription on a date you will not be reminded about in any useful way. The Curology box in particular is a subscription trial, not a sample — the $5.45 buys the postage, and the recurring charge starts after the trial period unless you act.

Put the cancel date in your calendar before you finish signing up, with a reminder two days early. That one habit is the difference between these being free and being a subscription you discover in March. If you suspect you've already got a few of those, that's exactly what the subscription audit is for.

The three rules for all of it

  • Use a separate email address for freebie signups. Almost all of these put you on a mailing list, and that's the actual price of the "free" sample.
  • Do the zero-cost ones immediately and the rebate ones the same day you buy. Everything else can wait; those two can't.
  • Never pay a "processing fee" to receive something free. A legitimate free offer may charge postage up front and say so plainly; one that asks for a fee to "release" your item is a different thing entirely, and the warning signs are in how to spot a fake store.

More of today's deals are below, and the October freebies that turn up after this goes out will be in there too.
