Beauty Advent Calendars 2026: Which Ones Are Worth the Money (and How to Pay Less)

By

In short

The 2026 beauty advent calendars from Ulta, Sephora, Macy's, Target, e.l.f., Charlotte Tilbury and more, compared by price, doors and full-size count. How to see through the "worth $440" claim, which calendars are good value, and how to buy them for less before they sell out.

Every beauty advent calendar comes with a big number on the box: "$440 value," "worth over $300," "$190 of beauty for $60." That number is real in the narrowest sense. Add up what each item would cost at its own list price and that's what you get. But it isn't what the calendar is worth to you. That depends on how many of the doors hide full-size products, how many of those you'd actually use, and what the same money would buy as two or three full sizes you already love.

Here's the 2026 lineup sold in the US, the math for judging any calendar in five minutes, and the cheapest way to buy one before the good ones sell out.

The 2026 calendars at a glance

Prices are list prices from the brand, the retailer or recent US coverage. "Claimed value" is the seller's own figure. Full-size counts come from the brand or retailer listing where one exists.

A few things that didn't make the table. Much of the advent calendar coverage you'll find online is British. Lookfantastic, Cult Beauty, Liberty, Boots and M&S calendars are priced in pounds, and we couldn't confirm a US price for 2026, so they're left out. The Costco calendars we could find for 2026 are candles, tea and cocoa rather than beauty. Kiehl's, Jo Malone and L'Occitane all have 2026 calendars, but we couldn't confirm their US prices, so check their US sites before you compare.

Why "worth $440" doesn't mean what it says

The claimed value is built by pricing each item at the same per-ounce rate as its full-size version. A 0.85 oz travel bottle of a hair oil gets valued as a slice of the big bottle's price, even though nobody pays full price per ounce for a tiny bottle. Accessories get their own list price too. A makeup bag, a brush, a gua sha tool: each one adds to the total, whether or not you'd ever buy it.

So the ratio between price and claimed value tells you less than you'd think. Macy's 25 Days of Beauty claims $300 of products for $75, which looks like four times your money, but one published breakdown of the contents lists just one full-size item. e.l.f. claims only $153 for $95, a modest-looking 1.6 times, yet 18 of its 24 items are full-size. The calendar with the less impressive number is the better deal if you'd use the products.

How to judge any calendar in five minutes

  1. Count the full sizes. Full-size products are the ones you'd otherwise buy. Deluxe minis are nice for travel or trying something new, but they don't replace anything in your routine.
  2. Work out the price per door. Divide the price by the number of doors. It won't tell you whether it's a good deal, but it shows what you're paying for each morning's surprise. The chart below has the 2026 figures.
  3. Do the "would I buy this anyway" test. Go through the contents list (most retailers publish it) and mark only the items you'd buy at full price. Add up their regular prices. If that total is close to the calendar price, it's a good buy. If it's a fraction, you're paying for packaging and surprise.
  4. Compare with two or three full sizes. For $150 (the Ulta calendar) or $220 (Charlotte Tilbury) you can buy several full-size products you already know you love. That's the honest alternative.
  5. Check the categories. Ulta's calendar mixes makeup, skincare, hair, body, fragrance and wellness, including menstrual heating patches and press-on nails among its nine full sizes. A brand calendar like Benefit, NYX or Glow Recipe goes deep on one brand instead. Pick the one whose mix looks like your bathroom shelf.

Our verdicts

  • Best value overall: e.l.f. ($95) and NYX Bling Box ($110). Almost everything inside is full-size, so you're getting products, not samples. The catch is that both are single-brand makeup boxes. If you don't wear much color, a lot of doors will end up in a drawer.
  • Best for trying lots of brands: Ulta 25 Days of Beauty ($150). Nine full sizes plus 22 other pieces across every category, from Tatcha and Moroccanoil minis to a full-size The Ordinary essence. It's worth it if you'd use at least a handful of the full sizes.
  • Best under $100: Sephora Collection ($60). Thirteen full-size house-brand products plus travel sizes and accessories, and in past Savings Events it has been covered by Sephora's house-brand discount (more below).
  • Fun, not value: Target's $20 calendars. Twelve small treats in themes like skincare, hair and spa. Perfect for a teen or a stocking stuffer, but don't expect your routine in there.
  • Buy for the box: Benefit and Charlotte Tilbury. Both are beautiful gifts. But Benefit is all minis, and Charlotte Tilbury has four full sizes in a 15-piece box for $220. If you're buying for yourself, pick the two or three Charlotte Tilbury products you actually want and buy them on their own.
  • Promo-only: Macy's 25 Days of Beauty. Mostly deluxe samples, so the price only makes sense on a discount. Macy's runs plenty of those (see the deal card below).

How to pay less

  • Sephora Savings Event, until November 9. Your Beauty Insider tier discount (10% to 20%) applies to most of the store, and Sephora Collection is 30% off for every member during the event. In past events the Sephora Collection calendar has been included in that house-brand discount, so check your cart before you pay. The full rules, tiers and dates are in our Sephora vs. Ulta holiday sales guide.
  • Ulta code GIFTS, until November 8 at 11:59 p.m. CT. $10 off $50, $15 off $75 or $20 off $100. Ulta's product page shows the code applying to the 25 Days of Beauty calendar, which brings it to $130. After that, keep an eye on Ulta's early Black Friday deals, which run through November 21.
  • Macy's promotions. Macy's discounts its calendars often. Both 2026 versions were already 15% off when our editors posted the deal, and some promos have gone deeper. If you're set on Macy's, wait for a coupon rather than paying full price.
  • Nordstrom's early Black Friday. Nordstrom's current sale is focused on fragrance (15% off niche and designer scents, ending November 11). It isn't a calendar sale, so check the specific product page for any discount. Calendars can sell out at Nordstrom long before Black Friday.
  • A cashback portal on top. Most big portals pay a percentage back at Sephora, Ulta, Macy's and Nordstrom. Base rates are usually in the low single digits and get boosted during holiday sales, so check the current rate before you click through. How tracking works, and how to make sure the money arrives, is in our cashback portal guide.
  • Pay with a discounted gift card. A Sephora, Ulta or Macy's gift card bought below face value stacks with everything above. Here's how to buy them safely.
  • Sephora at Kohl's is its own world. The Sephora Favorites calendar is sold through Sephora at Kohl's, where Kohl's coupons and Kohl's Cash don't apply to Sephora products. Plan on paying the listed price there.

Buy now, or wait for the markdown?

Calendars follow a predictable pattern. The popular ones sell out early, before any meaningful discount, and Target's $20 calendars are a yearly example. Calendars that don't sell out tend to get marked down through December, and leftovers can drop further after Christmas. There's no fixed date or percentage, though, and the calendar you want may simply be gone.

  • If it's a gift, or you want the countdown from December 1: buy now, with the cheapest stack you can find above.
  • If it's for you and you don't care about opening one a day: waiting is a reasonable bet on the less popular calendars. A calendar opened all at once in January has the same products in it.

Returns: decide before you open door one

Neither Sephora nor Ulta treats advent calendars differently from other products, but the practical rule is simple: once you've opened the doors and used the products, you probably can't return it.

  • Sephora: the standard policy is a refund within 30 days, then an exchange or store credit from day 31 to day 60. Sephora has posted an extended holiday window for purchases made October 30 to December 31, 2026. Check whether it covers a refund or only credit before you rely on it.
  • Ulta: a refund within 30 days for new or gently used products, then an Ulta e-gift card from day 31 to day 60. Purchases made November 1 to December 31, 2026 can be returned through January 31, 2027. Returns must include all original components, which a half-opened calendar won't.

If it's a gift, keep it sealed and include a gift receipt. If it's for you, read the contents list before you buy, not on December 1.

The short version

Ignore the "worth $X" number and count the full sizes. e.l.f. and NYX give you the most real products for the money, Ulta is the best mix of brands, and Sephora Collection is the best calendar under $100. Charlotte Tilbury and Benefit are lovely gifts but poor value for yourself. Use Ulta's GIFTS code by November 8 or Sephora's event by November 9, stack a cashback portal and a discounted gift card, and keep any gift calendar sealed until it's handed over. Spend on nice things, never overpay

Coco keeps saying she's done shopping, then clicks on the next good deal anyway. She loves skincare, putting outfits together, travel and trying new finds. Her favorite weekend is a bubble tea and a wander through Target and Sephora, checking what's worth grabbing. Cheap isn't enough, though: if something isn't good, she won't recommend it at any price. Her goal is to help you skip the duds and stop overpaying.
