That's four weeks out — and for once the calendar matters more than the countdown, because the sales no longer start on the day. Best Buy and Costco both opened their holiday events today, October 30. Target's first early sale is next week. Walmart's is the week after.

Two notes. Walmart, Target and Costco keep their stores closed on Thanksgiving, November 26 — the websites stay open. And where a cell says "not announced", that's deliberate: plenty of sites publish predicted dates as if they were confirmed. An empty cell is more useful than a wrong one.

What's genuinely cheapest — and what to leave
The rule from the prep guide still decides most cases: things that several big retailers all stock are where Black Friday competition produces a real floor. Things only one company prices, or that are seasonal, run on a different calendar.

And whatever the category: check the price history, not the percentage. In research that tracked one Black Friday, about a third of "deals" weren't cheaper than the weeks before — the same trick a clearance tag plays with an invented "original" price.
Buying early without regret: price match and price adjustment
Early sales are only risky if a lower price later is money you can't get back. At several of the big retailers it isn't — as long as you ask.
- Target — Holiday Price Match Guarantee. Buy on or after November 1, in store or online; if Target's own price on the same item drops on or before December 24, you can request the difference. It matches Target's own prices only, not other stores', and you need proof of purchase. This is what makes Target's Nov 5–7 sale low-risk.
- Best Buy — holiday price match. Best Buy says that if a product it sells drops in price during the holiday season, it will match it. Matching a competitor's Black Friday price is a different question — read the current terms before counting on it.
- Costco — 30-day price adjustment. Costco will refund the difference if its price drops within 30 days of purchase, which neatly spans its two Holiday Savings waves and Black Friday weekend.
- Walmart matches its own website for identical items sold and shipped by Walmart — it's not a post-purchase guarantee in the way Target's is.
- Amazon has no general price-adjustment policy. The exceptions are TVs sold and shipped by Amazon (a price drop within 30 days is refunded) and the pre-order price guarantee. Its long holiday return window is the real backstop.
The practical routine: keep the order number, screenshot the price you paid, and put a calendar reminder for the end of each window. The copy-paste request script is in our price adjustment guide.
And the return windows (Best Buy to Jan 15/31, Amazon to Jan 31) are what make early buying safe even where there's no price match. Two caveats: Apple products usually get a shorter deadline, and restocking fees survive the extension — at Best Buy, opened electronics can carry one.
Stack the savings that don't depend on the sale
The sale price is only one layer. Clicking through a cashback portal before checkout pays a percentage on top — and rates move around during big sale weeks, so check the rate on the day rather than trusting last month's. Paying with a discounted gift card, or a card with a store-specific bonus, is another layer; the rules for combining them are in the coupon stacking guide.

Cyber Monday isn't a rerun
Cyber Monday falls on November 30, and it's increasingly its own event rather than Black Friday's leftovers: Walmart runs Cyber Monday deals from Nov 30 to Dec 2, Best Buy pairs it with Cyber Sunday on the 29th, and Costco adds online-only deals that day. Online-heavy categories often hold their Black Friday price through to Monday, so you rarely need to panic-buy on Friday.
If something you bought on Black Friday gets cheaper on Cyber Monday at Target, Best Buy or Costco, that's precisely what the price match is for. Ask.

The short version: Best Buy and Costco are already running; Target's early sale is Nov 5–7, Walmart's Nov 12–15, and Amazon hasn't announced. Buy TVs, laptops, consoles and appliances once they hit your baseline, leave toys and coats for later, and lean on Target's and Best Buy's holiday price match and Costco's 30-day adjustment so that buying early costs you nothing.
